Our goal is to make talking about not being okay, okay.

We believe that mental health is treatable, suicide is preventable and strive to make our services easily accessible and barrier-free. We seek to break down the stigma of mental health and suicide by creating an environment where people are comfortable seeking help for themselves, talking about their thoughts and feelings, and supporting and seeking help for suicidal loved ones.

At Solace House, we make it our mission to provide free, accessible, professional counseling and support services to anyone in emotional crisis.

We do that by:

  • Providing compassion, care, and understanding.

  • Treating clients with respect and dignity.

  • Delivering free, consistent, and dependable services to anyone in need.

Solace House can help.

Negative life events can cause someone psychological distress, even if they have never struggled with mental health issues in the past. Triggers like the death of a loved one, the loss of a job or home, the breakdown of a relationship, a life-changing illness, or suffering from physical pain can alter your outlook on life. This can result in a sense of hopelessness, a disruption of normal coping mechanisms, and an inability to participate in daily life activities.

  • We currently only serve residents in the States of New York and New Jersey.

  • All services are completely free, with no insurance necessary.

  • Currently, our therapy sessions are conducted remotely via telehealth.

Our story so far.

Solace House opened its doors in 2015 when Ireland’s Senator Joan Freeman established a one-year pilot program in New York City, bringing this service’s first U.S. location from Ireland to Long Island City, Queens located in the New York Irish Center building.

After a very successful one-year pilot program, and as the demand for our services grew rapidly, we became a permanent life-saving program, offering free services to adults, adolescents and children in New York State.

As of 2025, Solace House expanded its net of care to the State of New Jersey, with our first ever bilingual service, catering to Spanish and English-speaking individuals.

“As a volunteer of Solace House, I truly believe that this is a life-saving organization, saving precious lives each day. Saving Moms and Dads, Sons and Daughters, Friends and Colleagues. As someone who has also been bereaved by Suicide, it is so reassuring to know that you are not alone and there is free professional support and counseling available to help you through your darkest hours.”
